Hello,
Thank you for joining the COA Lunch and Learn. I am following up today with a few reminders and resources, and to invite you to pause and consider the take-aways.
A few key take-aways from our time together:
- Mindfulness is not about quietening the mind. It’s about paying attention, with attention. Noticing what is going on in the mind, without judgement.
- It’s a state of mind, a trait, and a practice.
- Like a muscle, it can be developed over time.
- Noticing you are on auto-pilot and redirecting you’re attention is the practice of mindfulness!
- The research is clear, small amounts can move the needle on wellbeing Brief structured respiration practices enhance mood and reduce physiological arousal
I’ve attached a list of great resources and a handout explaining three great beginner practices. I’m also sharing my top three favourite resources:
- A great conversation and podcast – Brené with Dr. Amishi Jha on Finding Focus and Owning Your Attention – Dare to Lead with Brené Brown | Podcast on Spotify
- Hit play on a recorded practice (I started my day with “feeling the breath” today).
- Explore the concept of self-compassion, or hit play on a Self-Compassion Exercise by Dr. Kristin Neff
After the session, Inspector Bednarczyk reached out with a resource available to all OPS, Goals Management Course: ops.abiliticbt.com/en-CA/programs/goal-management-training
In kindness,
Sarah Hunter (she/her), PhD.
